 FOREWORD

Yangtze, the Long River, is the longest river in Asia and the third longest in the world. Beginning from the glaciers and swamps on the Tibetan Plateau, the 6,211km giant waterway traverses the entire China from the west to the east, and joins the East China Sea at Shanghai. Similar to the Yellow River, the Yangtze is also a great icon in China. As one Mother River of the country, the Yangtze landscapes are closely associated with Chinese national identity. Meanwhile, the development of the river is intensely linked with China’s modernisation.

From a rigorous artistic research project to a mature photographic exhibition, the touring exhibition unveils the mythic Mother River. Meanwhile, it offers new visual, emotional and perceptional experiences to the visitors.

In addition to the photographs, films and objects from the expeditions are also presented in the exhibition.
